Beehive Telephone Company Beehive's 20 central office locations are in remotes parts of 11 counties - 9 have paved roads, 4 have dirt roads, and 1 has NO road. (water accessible only). Three do not have commercial power. We provide phones (and data, including compressed video) to 7 schools. Beehive owns over 600 route miles of long distance facilities just to get to the center of those 14 communities. It takes more than a mile of line to get the local loops to each customer from their associated central switching centers. The nearest 7-11 is from one to three hours distant. In some areas the closest gas station is over one hour away over dirt roads. Yes, we are a rural telephone company. |
